‘Chuck’ producer lands Western at Fox

via THR.com

Described as an epic Western with a sci-fi twist, the show will revolve around “a gunslinger caught between worlds” and will feature a nod to “Planet of the Apes,” said Rosenbaum, who is executive producing with Wonderland’s McG and Peter Johnson. “What I’m really interested in is the revamping of the Western genre where you still have all of the iconic Western themes and iconic Western tropes but the idea is that it will feel incredibly contemporary and will introduce the Western to a whole new generation,” Rosenbaum said.

Not to criticize a potential series before it even goes into production, I find this announcement somewhat ridiculous. Off the bat, it bears striking resemblance to another recent Fox series Firefly, which was a sci-fi with Western flavorings. Its also probably worth mentioning “another” older Fox production, The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. which was conversely a Western with sci-fi flavorings. Both of which were canned prematurely.

I’m not saying its an unsuccessful formula since both works were rather incredible and sadly cut short, but how Fox could even think of doing it again and pass it off as some sort of unique “twist”.

Kitchen Confidential on Hulu

Kitchen Confidential

Kitchen Confidential is one of the many shows Fox killed prematurely and have long since been forgotten. Forget Firefly, Arrested Development or Family Guy, the reality is that when shows get canceled that’s it. No powerful fan-bases, comic book continuations, or alternate network purchases. When a show gets canned, its completely over and its simply erased from history.

Thus its no surprise that a show that only aired four years ago and had a rather stellar cast, has seemingly been brushed aside to be forgotten. I surely never heard of it and only stumbled upon it by accident. Through my fandom for Bourdain’s program No Reservations, it came to my attention through the ever-so-useful Wikipedia, that there was a fictional TV show based around his life.

Glee Pilot, Upcoming Fox musical comedy

Glee TV

The pilot for Glee aired last night, months in advance of the series actual premiere later this year in September. The upcoming Fox show is a musical comedy which is probably an attempt to “cash-in” on the recent success of the High School Musical franchise as well as a general need for more comedies on their Fall lineup.

As the name suggests, it revolves primarily around the members of a high school glee club (choir) and the struggle for the protagonist Will Schuester, to keep the program going. In the case of this series specifically, it also refers to the general feeling of glee or pure joy that is felt when one takes part in something that one is passionate about. The series is being headed by Ryan Murphy (creator of Nip/Tuck), and stars several notable individuals.

Matthew Morrison stars as the series protagonist, a high school Spanish teacher who once won the Nationals and still holds a passion for the current glee club at his school, which is on the verge of being dissolved. Thus he jumps on the opportunity to become the new director and revitalize the program by both recruiting new members and setting the lofty goal of winning the Nationals once again. Lea Michele of Spring Awakening and Les Miserables fame also stars as the lead female member of the Glee club. She is depicted as an outcast who seemingly compensates her lack of social stature with an air or arrogance and over-confidence. Though as we already know from her impressive performance as Wendla in Spring Awakening, her confidence in musical ability is not without merit.

They are joined by a relatively quirky and diverse cast of fellow club members, faculty, and other high school cliques. The show will also supposedly feature regular guest appearances by many musical and Broadway artists such as John Lloyd Young, Victor Garber, Kristin Chenoweth, and Josh Groban.

The Upcoming Cleveland Show

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 by Crap

via THRFeed. A few clips for the upcoming Cleveland Show, a spinoff of Family Guy. Embedded above is the first clip with two more available in addition to a longer extended formal trailer. For the most part, it looks to be in line with Seth McFarlane’s other works in its taste for humor, random musical numbers, and absurd satire bordering on inappropriateness. I can’t imagine the world needs three back-to-back Mcfarlane animations Sunday night, but this may not prove to be a bad thing. While American Dad is extremely inferior to Family Guy, it still provides a nice complementary spot and is favorable to either The Simpsons, or the now cancelled, King of the Hill.
